James Ribbons Antiques has dated this piece to the 1800s.
The marble is now in one piece as it was repaired some years ago and is very sound and the crack is barely visible. Should the intention be to put a mirror over the console table then the small piece missing from the back would not be seen. Alternatively a new piece of marble could be cut but it would be difficult to find such a beautiful colour as this original piece.
The console measures 42 inches wide and 19 inches deep.
The console is free standing having 4 legs and is wonderfully ornate with gilt swags and the central basket is of carved wood and very decorative.
The condition overall is distressed but sound which is what you want from a piece of this age.
