Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Sancai, meaning three-colour glaze, is a lead-glazed Chinese ceramic technique used during the Tang and Ming dynasties to produce funerary wares known as mingqi. These items, including miniature food dishes, were placed in tombs to serve the deceased in the afterlife.

Sancai ceramics were typically crafted from low-fired white earthenware or terracotta clay bodies. The distinctive amber, green, and clear lead glazes were coloured using metallic oxides such as iron and copper before undergoing a second kiln firing.

Authentic pieces exhibit evidence of age such as micro-crazing across the glazed surface, mineral crusting, and degradation from burial. Additionally, genuine mingqi display unglazed bases revealing porous earthenware and hand-moulding marks.

These small-scale sculptures function effectively as accent objects when displayed inside glass cabinets or arranged on dark mahogany shelves. Their contrasting glazes and sculptural forms provide tactile interest on console tables or sideboards.

Glazed earthenware should be dusted gently with a dry, soft natural-bristle brush to avoid disturbing degraded surface glazes. Liquid cleaners and chemical detergents must be avoided, as porous clay bodies readily absorb moisture and sustain structural deterioration.
