Description

A superb W(***) Factory Bough Pot & Cover c.1800.  Mansfield decorated possibly by William Billingsley with a landscape panel to the front, almost certainly when he was operating from Mansfield, in the period 1799–1802.

The piece bears the impressed mark of the enigmatic W(***) factory.

It is thought (but not known for certain) that that factory was operated by the Whitehead family-Whitehead senior having three sons-hence the three stars.

Condition: Small chip to base invisibly restored. Small rim chips to lid and worn gilding restored. 

Literature: Illustrated plate 717, page 559 of Geoffrey Godden's Stafordshire Porcelain.

This Georgian porcelain bough pot and cover dates from around 1800 and stands on small gilt ball feet. The cylindrical body holds multiple small openings on top surrounded by a scalloped gilt rim, displaying a white and gold ground enriched with hand-painted landscape scenes, green foliage, and gilt fluting. The decorative scheme includes gilded geometric scroll patterns and arch motifs, alongside an impressed factory mark on the porcelain.
