Victorian majolica is a style of low-fired earthenware characterised by relief-moulded designs covered in colorful lead glazes. Introduced by Minton at the Great Exhibition of 1851, it gained immense popularity throughout the 19th century for its naturalistic motifs.

19th-century majolica was produced using terracotta or earthenware clay shaped in plaster moulds. The pieces were fired once, decorated with metal-oxide coloured glazes, and fired a second time at high temperature to fuse the glassy finish.

Authentic Minton majolica typically features impressed factory marks, such as the Minton name, shape numbers, and year cyphers. Authentic pieces display sharp moulding definition and clear glazes that rarely run together.

A majolica bowl functions effectively as an accent piece on a dining table, console, or sideboard. Its sculptural form and botanical motifs complement traditional, eclectically curated, or conservatory-inspired interior schemes.

Clean antique majolica gently using warm water and mild detergent with a soft cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners, scrubbing pads, automatic dishwashers, and prolonged soaking, as moisture can enter crazed glaze surfaces.
