Description

A Chinese Nanking Cargo porcelain tea bowl & saucer circa 1750, both pieces painted with a pastoral scene depicting a pavilion on a rocky elevation surrounded by trees, bearing original Christies auction labels, together with purchase receipt, certificate of authenticity and copy of 'The Making Cargo Book' by Michael Hatcher.

The Nanking Cargo refers to a shipment of 18th Century Chinese porcelain, tea, gold and other goods discovered by professional treasure hunter Mifhael Hatcher in 1985 on the wreck of the Dutch East India Company ship Geldermalsen. The ship was en-route from China to the Netherlands in 1752 when it struck a reef in the South China Sea. The porcelain was made in the kilns at Jingdezhen in China and destined for export to the European market. Despite being under water for over two centuries it was remarkably well preserved and the collection was sold by auction at Christies over 5 days in 1986.

In excellent condition.
