Circa 1900

Linke was born in Pankraz in Bohemia and was celebrated by the French as one of the greatest ébénistes of meubles de style at the turn of the century. He began his apprenticeship with a Bohemian master at the age of thirteen. Four years later, he toured Austria, settling and working in Vienna for two years. Linke arrived in Paris in 1875, and by 1881 he had established his own small workshop at 170 rue du Faubourg St. Antoine. Taking 18th century styles as his starting point and adapting earlier styles to contemporary taste, Linke produced fine quality furniture, steadily expanding his business during the next 20 years. He firmly established his reputation after receiving a gold medal at the Paris Universal Exhibition of 1900 for his extraordinary Grand Bureau. Today, as in the past, Linke is best known for the exceptionally high quality of his work, as well as his individualism and inventiveness. All of his work has the finest, most lavish mounts. The technical brilliance of his work and the artistic change that it represented has never been repeated.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Louis XV style centre tables are defined by fluid cabriole legs, serpentine contours, parquetry veneering, and ornate gilt-bronze ormolu mounts that accent the structural lines of the piece.

These pieces feature exotic wood veneers such as kingwood, rosewood, and tulipwood laid over an oak carcass, embellished with cast and chased gilt-bronze mounts and brass mouldings.

Authentic 19th-century French mounts demonstrate hand-chased detailing, gilding wear on raised edges, and casting stamps or signatures from makers on the reverse side of the metalwork.

A Louis XV style table functions as a focal point in an entryway, library, or drawing room, contrasting decorative gilding with neutral contemporary wall finishes and architectural mouldings.

Dust regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and keep the item away from direct heat sources; ormolu mounts should be dusted lightly and kept free from abrasive chemical cleaners to preserve original gilding.
