An exceptional and highly collectible late Victorian / early Edwardian solid oak two-tier occasional table, manufactured by the legendary Liberty & Co. of London, dating to circa 1890–1900. This elegant piece beautifully captures the progressive aesthetic of the British Arts & Crafts movement. Built from beautifully figured quarter-sawn oak, the table features a square top tier dramatically accented with fine ebony and holly chequered stringing inlay running along the perimeter. Raised on stylized, tapering out-splayed legs, the wide side splats feature iconic pierced spade/heart cut outs—a signature design hallmark of Liberty’s legendary London furniture workshop.

Design & Provenance During the turn of the 20th century, Liberty & Co. led the vanguard of decorative design from their Marlborough Street premises, commissioning elite craftsmen to manufacture furniture that blended traditional English woodwork with clean, geometric Art Nouveau lines. This specific table is a recognized, documented catalog design from their turn-of-the-century furniture ranges. Its compact proportions and dual-tier shelving make it exceptionally versatile for a modern interior, functioning beautifully as a plant stand, lamp table, or hallway feature piece.

Condition : Offered in excellent antique condition with fantastic structural integrity and a rich, honey-toned oak patina.

Surface & Construction: The joints are completely tight and sturdy, having been safely stored in clean barn conditions. The tabletop remains perfectly flat, free from warping, and clearly displays the fine contrasting timber of the original perimeter chequered inlay. Light, age-appropriate surface marks and trivial historic scuffs exist, entirely consistent with a genuine, untouched piece of this age.
