Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A vitrine table, also referred to as a bijouterie table, originated in 18th-century France as a secure showcase for precious personal items, jewellery, and pocket watches. Popularised throughout the 19th century across Europe, these tables feature glass panels and tops to protect delicate collections from dust while allowing clear visibility.

Nineteenth-century display tables were typically crafted from fine hardwoods such as walnut, mahogany, or rosewood, often enhanced with timber veneers. They routinely feature glass panelling, fabric or velvet interior linings, and gilded brass or bronze mounts, known as ormolu, along the legs and apron.

Authentic 19th-century examples display hand-cut joinery, original brass or iron hinges, and natural signs of age on the timber finish. Look for inconsistencies in older glass, hand-cast metal mounts, and natural wear on the interior lining consistent with historical use.

Place a vitrine table in a reading nook, hallway, or living area where natural light can highlight the contents. Fill the glass chamber with small curated objects, such as vintage pocket watches, minerals, or antique coins, ensuring the table remains uncluttered to retain its refined profile.

Dust the timber surfaces regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth and apply beeswax periodically to maintain the wood moisture. Clean the glass panels using a mild glass cleaner applied directly to a cloth rather than the glass to prevent moisture from seeping into the wooden frame or interior lining.
