Jasperware is a type of unglazed stoneware developed in England during the late eighteenth century, characterised by its matte finish and applied white relief decoration. Spirit flagons crafted from jasperware were designed to store and serve alcoholic beverages such as whisky and brandy during the nineteenth century.

These decanters were constructed from coloured stoneware paste, with decorative white relief sprigs applied by hand prior to firing. Stoppers often incorporated natural cork topped with metal or ceramic finials, while hanging metal chains supported engraved spirit labels.
