Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This pair of garden seats originates from the nineteenth century in the Regency Chinoiserie style. Each barrel-shaped piece consists of ironstone finished with a glossy glaze, decorated in a vibrant palette of red, blue, and gold. The surface displays a clobbered red cloud pattern alongside multi-coloured figural reserve panels depicting Chinese figures, accompanied by pierced handle slots on the top surface. The construction incorporates hexagonal facets and moulded rims framing the central figural medallions, displaying slight variations in the polychrome enamels from hand painting. Each seat measures 28x28x48 cms. These decorative ceramics serve well in an empty corner of a sunlit conservatory, or function as occasional side tables within interior living spaces or sheltered outdoor areas. Homeowners can position them together as a matched pair or split them across different rooms to provide striking ornamental accents.

FAQs

Clobbered ceramics refer to pieces where additional overglaze enamelling and decoration were added over original underglaze blue patterns, a popular customisation practice in eighteenth and nineteenth-century Europe.

These seats were made from durable vitrified earthenware known as ironstone, finished with cobalt blue underglaze and layered with polychrome enamel glazes.

Authentic examples display substantial weight, hand-painted overglaze details applied over original printed or painted patterns, and characteristic fine surface crazing.

Ceramic garden seats serve as versatile accent pieces, functioning as side tables beside sofas, decorative plant stands, or occasional seating in hallways and alcoves.

Dust gently with a soft dry cloth and clean using warm water with mild soap, avoiding abrasive chemical cleaners or exposure to freezing temperatures that could damage overglaze enamelling.
