CONDITION REPORT:

In good antique condition throughout with some signs of age. There are marks, scratches and surface wear throughout, consistent with age and use. There is evidence of historic woodworm to the legs, particularly to the back right leg where there is some loss; this has long since gone and has been treated as a precaution. Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An antique oak serving table, often originating as a dresser base or server, was historically used in dining rooms and halls for holding platters, side dishes, and serving utensils. Constructed from durable native oak, these pieces provided both a low surface for food presentation and drawer storage for cutlery and linens.

These tables were built using solid native oak joinery, often featuring pegged mortise-and-tenon joints, hand-dovetailed drawer boxes, and hand-scalloped aprons. Hardware typically includes cast or stamped brass teardrop handles and decorative keyhole escutcheons.

Authentic period oak furniture exhibits hand-planed surfaces, irregular drawer construction with uneven dovetails, and genuine age-related shrinkage along panel joints. Look for natural patination around original brass fittings and wear consistent with historic daily use along lower stretchers and stile feet.

Position the piece in an entryway, dining area, or living room as a low sideboard or console table. Contrast the heavy, warm oak timber against neutral plaster walls, contemporary ceramic table lamps, and structured greenery or modern artwork suspended directly above.

Maintain the wood finish by dusting regularly with a clean, dry microfibre cloth and applying a high-quality clear beeswax polish once or twice a year. Keep the table away from direct heat sources and constant direct sunlight to prevent timber movement or premature finish deterioration.
