Antique Victorian Bamboo Side Table C.1890

19th century
Description

A Victorian bamboo side table, the faceted top inset with a woven panel within a dark border, over a geometric arrangement of bamboo stretchers and crossed rear bracing, set on three bamboo legs with splayed feet.

Designed to stand neatly against a wall, its narrow proportions make it particularly suitable in a hall or landing where space is at a premium. The use of natural bamboo reflects the Anglo-Japanese influence that shaped the Aesthetic Movement in the later 19th century.

Very good antique condition with minor surface wear and patina consistent with age, and with a later replacement woven top. Structurally sound, clean and ready to place in the home.
