Royal Worcester Antique (Late 19early 20thc) Pair of Greek Porcelain Figurines, James Hadley

19th century
Description

Royal Worcester antique (1897-1911) pair of Greek porcelain figurines playing lute and castanets modelled by James Hadley. These sublime figures capture the ethereal grace of Greek musical performers with extraordinary delicacy and precision. Dressed in flowing golden-hued robes that seem to undulate with musical rhythm, they showcase Hadley's remarkable skill in rendering fabric's complex drape and movement. Each rests on a circular base with the Royal Worcester mark and model numbers 1827/8 on the bottom. 32-33cm high x 10.3cm base, weight 1.65kg (pair).

Excellent original condition.

James Hadley (1837-1903) was an English potter and artist associated with the Royal Worcester Porcelain Company In 1875, he left the company and set up his own modelling studio in Worcester High Street, but although no longer directly employed by Royal Worcester he sold almost his complete output of models for ornamental vases and figures to them. He has been described by English porcelain expert John Sandon as "probably the finest English modeller of all time".

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
