This Chinese Qing Dynasty decorative dish belongs to the late 19th-century period and follows a traditional Longquan style. The ceramic body carries a thick sage green celadon glaze with a fine, natural crackle texture and soft lustre. The interior floor displays two central sprig-moulded fish in relief, while the upper structure finishes with a distinct everted rim. Measuring 20 cm in diameter, this round circular piece provides a compact form well-suited for display. In a modern interior, this dish functions effectively as an accent on a sideboard top, bringing traditional Chinese ceramic artistry into the room. The piece maintains an excellent antique condition with no chips, cracks, or restorations visible on the surfaces. The overall presentation combines historical motifs with the classic colour and glaze characteristics of traditional stoneware production.

FAQs

Longquan celadon refers to green-glazed Chinese stoneware and porcelain produced in kilns around Longquan in Zhejiang province, famous for its smooth, jade-like glaze tones and subtle crackle effects.

These dishes are formed from stoneware or porcelain clay bodies with sprig-moulded fish relief details applied to the interior base before being coated in an iron-rich glaze and fired in a reduction atmosphere.

Authentic late 19th-century pieces display characteristic wear around unglazed foot rings, natural glaze craze patterns, accurate tonal variations in the green glaze, and appropriate potting thickness.

A celadon dish works exceptionally well displayed flat on a sideboard or styled vertically on a plate stand within a curated shelving display to add organic texture and soothing green tones.

Dust gently with a dry microfibre cloth or clean with lukewarm water and a mild dish soap, avoiding abrasive cleaners or prolonged immersion that might compromise crackle glazes.
