Antique Victorian Partners Writing Library Table 19th C

19th century
Description

This gorgeous Victorian antique partners library table is crafted from beautiful flame mahogany and dates from Circa 1860.

It features a striking inset golden leather writing surface that has beautiful hand tooled and gilded impressed decoration. It is raised on four turned tapering legs that terminate in their original brass and brown porcelain castors.

It is a Partners desk and unusually has a frieze drawer and a dummy drawer on each side.  They are solid mahogany lined, have hand cut dovetails, their original knob handles and are perfectly sized for all the stationary you could possibly need, making this desk not just a symbol of refinement but a practical furnishing as well.

It is finished on all sides so that it can stand freely in the middle of a room, making it extremely suitable for a large home or office.

Condition:

In excellent condition having been beautifully cleaned, polished, waxed and releathered in our workshops. Please see photos for confirmation.

Flame Mahogany

Thomas Sheraton - 18th century furniture designer, once characterized mahogany as "best suited to furniture where strength is demanded as well as a wood that works up easily, has a beautiful figure and polishes so well that it is an ornament to any room in which it may be placed." Matching his words to his work, Sheraton designed much mahogany furniture. The qualities that impressed Sheraton are particularly evident in a distinctive pattern of wood called "flame mahogany."

The flame figure in the wood is revealed by slicing through the face of the branch at the point where it joins another element of the tree.

We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
