Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Georgian extending dining tables are typically crafted from dense woods such as mahogany and feature twin or triple pedestal bases with splayed legs. Designed for adaptability in formal dining rooms, they employ bearer mechanisms or drop-in leaves to extend the surface area.

High-grade Cuban or West Indian mahogany was the primary wood choice due to its stability, fine grain, and rich colouration. Structural supports often incorporated oak or pine sub-frames, while end caps and castors were forged from solid brass.

Authentic period examples exhibit hand-turned pedestal columns, hand-cut dovetail joints on timber bearers, and original brass caps with castors on the splayed legs. The underside of the top often shows original hand-planing marks and naturally aged timber contraction.

A traditional mahogany pedestal table creates a balanced contrast when paired with modern upholstered dining chairs or minimalist lighting fixtures. Placing the piece on a neutral, textured rug helps soften the deep wood tones within contemporary spaces.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth along the wood grain. Preserve the natural patina by applying a high-grade beeswax polish once or twice a year, avoiding silicone-based sprays and direct exposure to heat or sunlight.
