FAQs

Victorian furniture spans the reign of Queen Victoria from 1837 to 1901, encompassing various revival styles influenced by Gothic, Elizabethan, and Rococo movements, often characterised by heavy proportions and detailed craftsmanship.

Cabinetmakers during the Victorian era frequently utilised dense hardwoods such as mahogany, oak, and walnut, often featuring decorative veneers like burr walnut combined with solid secondary timbers for structural integrity.

Authenticity is typically verified by examining construction methods, such as hand-cut dovetailing, timber shrinkage, original brass or porcelain castors, and the natural patina developed on the wood over time.

Pairing historical pieces with modern minimalist seating or minimalist decor creates a balanced focal point, allowing the rich wood grain and traditional craftsmanship to contrast effectively with clean, contemporary lines.

Maintain antique wooden surfaces by keeping them away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting regularly with a dry cloth, and occasionally applying appropriate natural wax to nourish the timber.
