A 19th Century Pharmacy Jar

£675    $914    €795
An oversized French, 19th Century pharmacy jar which would have traditionally been used to store a cough related medicine. The hand-painted inscription of ''Couf Hamech'' reflects the informal and often phonetic labelling common in provincial apothecaries of the period.

These would have originally been made to sit on open shelves behind the pharmacy counter. The softly waisted form and traditional blue and white palette are typical of French apothecary wares of the period.

Overall in great condition although the surface shows age-related wear, hairline cracks and kiln marks consistent with age and use.

Hobo loves because: we love an apothecary jar at the best of times, a supersized version is even better.
