An attractive mid-Victorian card table, the shaped top veneered in attractively figured burr walnut with a fine marquetry cartouche and boxwood stringing, swivelling and folding open to reveal a baize-lined playing surface. The solid walnut base is finely carved, with clustered turned uprights above a quatreform platform, all raised on scrolling legs atop original brass and ceramic castors.A decorative, practical piece from the high Victorian period showing the influence of the Rococo Revival style, designed with considerable flair and craftsmanship. Compact and ideal as a side table or console when closed, while giving access to a fully functional playing surface when required.Presented in very good antique condition with a rich aged patina, light surface wear, some veneer repairs and a historic repair to one foot.
