Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

The William IV period, spanning roughly from 1830 to 1837, bridges the Regency and early Victorian eras. It is characterised by robust proportions, classical revival motifs, and heavy use of rich native and exotic timbers like mahogany and walnut.

These tables typically feature solid timber frames with figured veneer surfaces, such as burr walnut, applied over secondary woods like pine or mahogany. Traditional joinery includes mortise and tenon frames, dovetailed drawers, and sturdy central pillar constructions supported by platform bases with bun feet or castors.

Authenticity is determined by examining timber ageing, hand-cut joinery, traditional finishing techniques like shellac polish, and period-appropriate hardware. Genuine pieces often show natural shrinkage cracks in the veneer and genuine wear patterns consistent with nineteenth-century use.

An antique games table serves as a functional focal point in a living room, study, or hallway, paired with contemporary seating to create a balanced contrast. Its rich wood tones complement both minimalist and traditional colour schemes, adding historical depth and texture to the space.

Maintain antique walnut furniture by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent veneer cracking and fading. Clean surfaces gently with a soft, dry cloth and periodically apply traditional beeswax to nourish the wood and protect the polish.
