FAQs

The George III style spans the second half of the 18th century, characterised by a blend of classical Palladianism, rococo ornamentation, and later neoclassical elements popularised by designers such as Thomas Chippendale and Sheraton.

These pieces were typically constructed from native timbers such as oak, mahogany, or elm, utilising traditional joinery including pegged tenons, turned central pillars, and dovetail joints for stability.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetails, timber shrinkage appropriate to age, historical tool marks, and a natural patina developed through centuries of wax polishing and oxidation.

Such pieces serve well as accent surfaces in contemporary rooms, providing historical contrast when paired with minimalist seating or utilised to display curated decorative objects.

Preservation involves maintaining stable indoor humidity levels, avoiding direct sunlight, and periodically applying microcrystalline wax to nourish the timber without sealing it.
