FAQs

Victorian furniture encompasses a range of revival styles popular during the reign of Queen Victoria, heavily characterised by solid timber construction, rich patinas, and functional adaptability for domestic spaces.

These tables were predominantly crafted from solid hardwoods such as mahogany or oak, featuring traditional joinery like mortise and tenon, hand-turned legs, and hinged drop leaves supported by swing brackets.

Authenticity is identified through period-correct timber shrinkage, hand-cut dovetails in any drawers, traditional fastener types, and natural oxidisation or patina accumulated over decades of use.

A drop-leaf table provides versatile placement in compact spaces, functioning fully extended as a dining surface or folded down against a wall as a console, contrasting well with contemporary seating.

Preserve antique mahogany by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber splitting, applying natural beeswax periodically, and avoiding silicone-based polishes.
