This Victorian Aesthetic Movement Ebonised Sutherland Table by Jenks & Woods, has a very stylish look to it. The original ebonized finish has mellowed to a lovely soft black, and the rich gilt applied decoration has also aged rather well, showing signs of wear that add such character to the piece.
 
The lower shelf has a fretted gallery to keep items contained, which is a nice touch. Standing on brass castors and rings to add further detail. The table is of good quality, to be expected from a decent London maker.
 
Clearly stamped underneath for Jenks & Woods, a London maker, we can accurately date this to between 1881 and 1891. Jenks & Hunt became Jenks & Wood in 1881, and they ceased trading in 1891.
