Pie crust tables originated in 18th-century Britain during the Georgian period, prized for their intricately carved raised edges designed to prevent items from sliding off.

Authentic pieces are typically constructed from dense tropical hardwoods like mahogany, featuring a solid top carved from a single timber plank, mounted on a central pillar with tripod legs.

Authentication involves examining the timber shrinkage, hand-carved details, traditional joinery methods, and the presence of period-appropriate wear and oxidisation on the underside.

It serves as an effective accent piece beside a modern sofa or as a standalone display surface to introduce traditional warmth and architectural detail into a minimalist room.

Maintain the wood by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, and treat it periodically with traditional beeswax to nourish the finish.
