C19th Irish carved mahogany side table in the mid C18th George II period style.

Early Georgian period style Irish mahogany side table with a deep, carved and shaped frieze , having a dramatic central carved mask flanked by opposing mythical beasts or dragons . The side friezes of corresponding shaped form with carved leaf details. Raised on carved cabriole supports with shell-carved knees, leaf carved details and C-scrolls , terminating on carved ‘hairy-paw’ feet.

The rectangular top with a moulded profile edge , having numerous historic marks and scratches.

The whole having achieved a rich colour and patina.

A well-conceived and executed C19th carved mahogany copy of an important mid C18th George II period Irish side table.

A highly decorative table of practical scale and proportions.

*Irish furniture of this early Georgian period revival style was manufactured in the late C19th by eminent cabinet-making firms such as James Hicks of Dublin.
