Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Regency period centre tables were designed to sit prominently in the centre of a drawing room or entrance hall, crafted to be viewed from all angles. Popular between 1811 and 1830, they frequently featured circular tops, central pedestal supports, and classical motifs inspired by Greek, Roman, and Egyptian antiquities.

Cabinetmakers during the Regency era often used fine native light timbers such as sycamore, satinwood, or birch as a canvas for decorative painting. The surfaces were decorated with hand-painted botanical garlands, classical scrollwork, and painted borders before being finished with varnish.

Authentic Regency painted pieces display age-consistent surface craquelure within the varnish and painted decoration. Examination of the underside should reveal period-appropriate hand-saw marks, traditional joinery techniques, and natural timber shrinkage over time.

A Regency centre table functions as an architectural anchor when placed in a spacious entrance hall or foyer. In larger living spaces, it can be styled with decorative ceramics or sculptural objects to create a focal point.

Maintain painted sycamore by dusting regularly with a clean, dry microfibre cloth to prevent dust accumulation. Keep the piece away from direct sunlight, radiator heat, and moisture, avoiding wax or chemical cleaners that might degrade the historic paint layer.
