Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A brush pot, traditionally known as a bitong, is a cylindrical container designed to hold writing and painting brushes on a scholars desk. Originating in China, these vessels became prominent during the Ming and Qing dynasties as functional and decorative components of the scholars studio.

These ceramics were crafted from refined kaolin clay, painted with cobalt blue oxide pigment beneath an uncoloured glaze, and fired at high temperatures in kilns. The underglaze blue technique preserved detailed figurative and landscape brushwork beneath a durable glassy surface.

Authentic late Qing pieces display characteristic hand-painted underglaze cobalt brushwork, natural wear around the unglazed foot rim, and subtle irregularities inherent to hand-thrown porcelain construction. The weight of the body and composition of the glaze also reflect period production techniques.

A large porcelain brush pot serves as a focal accent on an office desk, console table, or within a curated bookshelf display. Its cobalt blue and white palette complements both classic dark wood furniture and contemporary neutral interiors.

Dust the ceramic regularly using a soft, dry microfibre cloth, avoiding harsh chemical cleansers or submersion in water. If cleaning is required, gently wipe the glazed surface with a damp cloth and mild soap, then dry completely.
