Regency furniture, spanning the late 18th to early 19th century, draws heavily from classical Greek, Roman, and Egyptian motifs, characterised by clean architectural lines, balanced proportions, and the use of exotic or highly figured veneers such as mahogany, rosewood, and burr elm.

These tables typically feature solid secondary timbers like oak or pine, overlaid with decorative decorative veneers such as burr elm. Construction methods commonly include hand-cut dovetails, mortise and tenon joints, and heavy turned or carved pedestals supported on splayed legs.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-correct joinery without modern metal screws, natural wax patination, hand-cut veneer thicknesses, and appropriate timber shrinkage consistent with age. Makers marks or stamps can sometimes be found on the underside or within drawer linings.

A historical library table serves as a striking focal point in a modern study or open-plan living area, contrasting well against minimalist walls or paired with contemporary seating to create a layered, collected aesthetic.

Maintain antique wooden surfaces by keeping them away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber splitting. Clean gently with a soft, dry cloth and nourish the wood periodically using traditional beeswax to preserve the finish.
