A George III tilt-top table is an 18th-century English occasional table featuring a hinged top that can be pivoted vertically to save space when not in use, supported by a central turned pillar and a tripod base.

These tables are traditionally constructed from dense hardwoods like mahogany or oak, featuring hand-turned pedestals, dovetail or pegged joints, and spider or cabriole legs terminating in pad or claw-and-ball feet.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate joinery such as hand-cut dovetails, traditional patination with age-related wear, and historically accurate brass catches or wooden latches for the tilting mechanism.

This piece works effectively as an accent surface in a living room or study, where the tilted top can be displayed as wall art or left flat to hold a lamp or decorative objects.

Maintain the wood by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting regularly with a dry cloth, and occasionally applying traditional beeswax to nourish the finish.
