The Georgian period spans the reigns of the first four British monarchs named George from 1714 to 1830, characterised by classical proportions, symmetry, and influences from Palladianism, rococo, and neoclassical design.

Cabinet makers of this era predominantly utilised imported dense hardwoods such as mahogany, often combined with secondary woods like pine or oak for internal structures, complemented by brass castors.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate joinery such as hand-cut dovetails, timber shrinkage consistent with age, patination from decades of wax polishing, and construction methods predating modern machine tools.

Pairing a warm timber period table with minimalist modern seating creates a balanced contrast, allowing the historical craftsmanship and grain patterns to serve as a focal point.

Maintain the timber by keeping it away from direct heat sources and sunlight, dusting regularly with a soft cloth, and applying natural beeswax periodically to nourish the grain without using silicone sprays.
