This is a good quality antique English Victorian large coffee table, measuring 4ft 8” wide by 3ft 8” deep, constructed from solid pine, incorporating four large drawers, displaying a lovely mellow colour and rustic scumble finish, circa 1870, in good condition.

Description:

Ideal for the larger living room, this rustic coffee table, features a four-plank solid pine top, above a frieze incorporating four working drawers, retaining the original ebonized turned knobs and constructed with hand-dovetailed pine drawer linings.  The drawers also feature their working brass lever locks (with key).  The straight frieze and four sturdy baluster turned legs retain the original scumble finish, which offers a contrast to the blonde colour of the solid pine top.  The table structure has been constructed in the traditional mortice and tenon method.  It is solid in joint and ready to use.

 

Condition Report:

The table has been adapted from a taller table, in order to serve as a coffee table for modern living.  There are no breaks to the frame or legs. The table has been constructed in the traditional mortice and tenon method.  The Victorian coffee table has been cleaned and wax polished in our workshop.  As the Victorian coffee table boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic mellow colour and patination.  Due to the nature of the scumble finish, there is a natural variation to the polished finish of the frieze and legs.   The four drawers open and close flush to the frame and retain the original brass lever locks, with working key.  This pine coffee table is well constructed, solid in joint and ready to use.
