FAQs

Victorian furniture spans the reign of Queen Victoria from 1837 to 1901, encompassing a variety of revival styles that transitioned from heavy, ornate designs to more refined, classical proportions towards the end of the period.

Cabinet makers predominantly used dense hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, and oak, frequently incorporating brass hardware, brass gallery rails, and hand-cut dovetail joints in drawer construction.

Authentication relies on examining timber grain, traditional joinery methods like hand-cut dovetails, tool marks, oxidisation on metal fittings, and consistency in the ageing of the polish.

Pairing dark wood antique furniture with minimalist neutral walls, contemporary lighting, and abstract art creates a balanced, layered aesthetic that highlights the craftsmanship of the piece.

Maintain antique mahogany by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber splitting, applying microcrystalline wax periodically, and dusting gently with a soft dry cloth.
