Description

A beautiful and impressive antique French marble top coffee table. This was made in France, it dates from around the 1930’s.

The quality is superb, the frame is made from solid birch and walnut. There are very high quality gilt metal ormolu mounts and gorgeous hand painted Limoges plaques. The circular marble top has wonderful patterns and sits loose on the base.

We have had the table frame recently re-polished, the condition is excellent with just some extremely minor wear remaining beneath the polish here and there.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

French marble top tables gained prominence during the Louis XIV and Neoclassical periods, prized for their luxurious materials, classical symmetry, and integration of fine ormolu mounts that reflected elite European craftsmanship.

These pieces typically feature solid hardwood frames such as mahogany or walnut, inset natural marble slabs, and cast bronze or brass mounts, often enhanced with marquetry or gilded details.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the joinery methods, natural ageing on the wood and metal components, hand-carved details, and the geological characteristics of the marble top, which often displays period-typical quarry marks.

Pair the table with minimalist upholstery and clean architectural lines to create a striking contrast, allowing the classical textures and ornamentation to serve as a sophisticated focal point.

Clean marble surfaces using a soft cloth and a pH-neutral cleanser specifically formulated for stone, avoiding acidic substances that can etch the polished finish, and regularly dust the wooden and metallic elements.
