The George II style, spanning from 1727 to 1760, bridges early Georgian simplicity and the introduction of Rococo influences, characterised by heavier proportions, use of dense mahogany, and the popularisation of cabriole legs terminating in pad or claw-and-ball feet.

These tables were typically constructed from solid mahogany or oak timbers with fine mahogany veneers, featuring hand-cut dovetail joints in the drawer construction, pegged mortise and tenon framing, and subtle brass escutcheons.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-correct tool marks, traditional timber shrinkage, hand-forged iron or brass fixings, and structural wear consistent with age, alongside the characteristic swing-leg mechanism designed to support the unfolded top.

Placed against a neutral wall as a console or positioned in a living space in its folded configuration, the rich grain and traditional silhouette provide a historical contrast to minimalist or modern decor schemes.

Maintain stable indoor humidity levels away from direct heat sources and sunlight, dusting regularly with a dry cloth and occasionally applying natural beeswax to nourish the timber without sealing the surface.
