Description

A beautiful and quite unusual antique French circular dining table in rosewood. This dates from around the 1850-1870 period.

It is of outstanding quality and has a beautiful design. It sits on three beautifully carved solid rosewood legs, meaning that it can seat six people, as long as the chairs are relatively slim at the front. The rosewood grain patterns and colour tones are gorgeous throughout.

We have recently had this re-polished, the condition is excellent for its age. There are just various very small marks here and there remaining beneath the polish, commensurate for age.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

French antique tables from the 19th century typically feature rich exotic woods like rosewood, curved cabriole or carved legs, and intricate frieze details that reflect classical European craftsmanship.

These tables are primarily constructed using solid or veneered rosewood over secondary timbers, employing traditional joinery such as mortise and tenon, hand-carved ornamentation, and cast brass or bronze fittings.

Authentic pieces exhibit natural patina, hand-cut joinery marks beneath the top, traditional screw or peg fastenings, and variations in the grain structure characteristic of hand-selected tropical hardwoods.

Position the piece as a central focal point in a dining space or entrance hall, pairing it with minimalist seating to highlight the rich grain and historical craftsmanship against modern architectural elements.

Protect the surface from direct sunlight and excessive humidity by using coasters and placemats, and maintain the timber using microcrystalline wax applied sparingly with a soft cloth.
