Prattware is a type of English earthenware produced primarily in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, known for its distinctive underglaze colours, typically blue, ochre, brown, and green, often applied to figures, jugs, and plaques.

Prattware pieces are made from fine earthenware clay, moulded or cast, and hand-painted with metal oxide colours under a clear lead glaze before being fired in a kiln.

Authentic pieces exhibit characteristics of early manufacture such as crazing in the glaze, primitive moulding seams, hand-painted brushwork with earthy oxide colours, and typical wear consistent with age.

These small decorative objects work well displayed on mantelpieces, within glass-fronted cabinets, or styled alongside books on a shelf to add historic character and visual interest.

Antique pottery should be kept away from direct sunlight and drastic temperature changes, dusted gently with a soft dry brush, and never submerged in water or cleaned with harsh chemicals.
