FAQs

Octagonal centre tables gained popularity during the Victorian era, often placed in the middle of large reception rooms or libraries to display decorative items, books, or lamps.

These tables typically feature solid timber frames such as mahogany, walnut, or oak, frequently adorned with intricate geometric wood marquetry and parquetry veneers on the top surface, supported by a central pedestal base.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate joinery, hand-cut dovetails in drawers where applicable, natural patination on the timber, and traditional hand-applied finishes rather than modern synthetic varnishes.

An antique octagonal table functions effectively as a standalone centrepiece in a spacious entrance hall or as a sophisticated focal point topped with art books and sculpture in a living room.

Maintain antique wood by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth, and occasionally applying appropriate natural beeswax to nourish the timber.
