Seventeenth-century furniture is characterised by solid timber construction, turning techniques such as bobbin or spiral turning, and functional yet sturdy proportions designed for domestic use.

Cabinet makers of this era predominantly utilised native hardwoods such as oak, walnut, and elm, often combined with hand-cut joinery and wooden peg fastenings.

Authenticity is determined by examining tool marks, hand-carved joinery, timber shrinkage patterns, oxidisation consistent with age, and period-appropriate hardware.

Pairing historical timber pieces with minimalist modern decor creates a balanced focal point, allowing the natural grain and craftsmanship to stand out.

Maintain antique timber by avoiding direct sunlight and excessive humidity fluctuations, applying microcrystalline wax sparingly, and dusting with a soft, dry cloth.
