The Pembroke table originated during the mid-18th century in Britain, typically characterised by a rectangular central leaf and two hinged drop leaves on either side, designed for versatility and ease of movement within elite residences.

These tables are traditionally constructed from fine timbers such as mahogany, satinwood, or oak, featuring dovetail joints in the drawers, hand-turned or tapered legs, and often complex hand-painted or inlaid decorative motifs.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate joinery, hand-forged fixings, timber shrinkage consistent with age, and hand-applied finishes, differing significantly from later machine-made reproductions.

An antique Pembroke table functions effectively as an occasional writing desk or a side table, offering historic contrast when paired with minimalist or contemporary seating and decor.

Preserve painted wooden furniture by keeping it away from direct sunlight and fluctuating humidity levels, cleaning only with a soft dry cloth and avoiding harsh chemical polishes.
