A Very Fine Quality Small 19th Century French Mahogany Bureau Plat or Writing Table.The bureau plat is one of the most famous pieces of French furniture with numerous successful designs being produced, primarily in the mid-late 18th century. Our piece, made in the 19th century but patterned after a late 18th century model, is distinguished by its very usable small size, the particularly fine mounts used throughout and the original and beautifully aged maroon leather top. With its elegant fine lines, this piece stands beautifully and relies primarily on the contrast between beautifully patinated mahogany and fine ormolu for its decorative impact. There are three drawers in the frieze and each drawer front are mounted with metalwork of exceptional quality. This ormolu consists of beaded and other textured mounts which all catch the light slightly differently.
