Lee Wright Antiques & Interiors Ltd has dated this piece to the 18th Century.
The tables are finely proportioned and are larger than average size for pieces of this type.
The tables rely purely on the exceptional veneers for their decorative effect as there are no mounts or carved elements, even the drawer handles are understated and turned wood rather than the more common ormolu examples found on most French pieces of this age. The beautifully faded colour and this pared back aesthetic makes the tables seem surprisingly contemporary despite their age. The tops of the tables have been expertly bookmatched, meaning that they have a somewhat geometric look, both tops seemingly centred with X or cross shaped sections.
These fine tables are extremely versatile pieces of furniture that are both practical and highly decorative.
