Black Forest Antler Side Table

19th century
Description

Circa 1880. An extremely rare exhibition quality, Black Forest oval occasional table made from split antlers with ivory inlay. The oval top with central panel of carved deer, framed in string inlay of ivory, with another shaped and framed section. The split horn laid diagonally, with broad split antler banding, framed with an inlay of ivory on the fore-edge and on the frieze. The table is supported on a pair of well patinated five horn antlers, with white tips, sitting on a concave platform base with split horn and ivory inlay, resting on four carved ivory feet. (Table comes with ivory exemption certificate).
