Derby porcelain refers to ceramic wares produced in Derby, England, from the mid-18th century onwards, highly regarded for fine paste and realistic animal and human figures.

Early figures were typically crafted from soft-paste porcelain, shaped using press moulds, and hand-painted with underglaze colours and enamels before a final second firing.

Authentic pieces often exhibit unglazed bases, characteristic crazing, subtle potting flaws, early incised repair marks, and sometimes an anchor and D mark in various colours.

These small decorative objects can be displayed on mantelpieces, within glass-fronted cabinets, or atop stacked art books to add historical texture to a room.

Keep porcelain out of direct sunlight, avoid harsh chemical cleaners, dust gently with a soft dry brush, and ensure stable temperature and humidity levels.
