Quiet Street Antiques of Bath has dated this piece to the 1920s.
In perfect condition, no chips, cracks or signs of repair.
Fully coloured usually (as in this case) in yellow and red, his black and pale blue hat having a red pompom. The fan is pale blue. The Mandarin is recorded as being sold for 2s.6d in 1927. It was withdrawn by 1940. It was re-issued in 1977. The modeller is unknown, but Daisy Rea remembers this model being designed by Mr Sharp who looked after the museum at the time.
