Copeland Parianware Bust Of Princess Alexandra 1863

An elegant Parian ware bust scultured by Mary Thorneyccroft for the Art Unbion of London, dated 1863.
 
Impressed Marks: W T Copeland, Art Union of London Mary Thornycroft sc 1863.
 
No repairs or damage other than natural signs of age.
 
Thornycroft created numerous busts and statues for Queen Victoria, chiefly of the royal children. The drawing-room at Osborne House contained nine life-size marble statues of the young princes and princesses that were modeled by Thornycroft. She also executed a number of busts of private individuals, as well as a few ideal statues. Among the latter is her well-known figure of a ''Skipping Girl''. Most of her works were portraits of the royal children that were commissioned by Queen Victoria.
 
Princess Alexandra of Denmark married Albert Edward, Prince of Wales in 1863 when she was eighteen years old and this bust was made following that event. She became Queen consort of the United Kingdom and the British Dominions and Empress consort of India in...
