Antique Chinese Fo Dog Sancai

Description

This is a chaming Chinese tomb guardian, dog of Fo dating from the late 19th century in the Sancai or (three colour) glaze. The Sancai triple glaze originated in the Tang period circa 618-907 and was first found on tomb figures appearing around 700. The lion dog is well modelled in hard paste porcelain with characterful face and sharp teeth. The base has typical Chinese key motif with insects and flowers in the design. The dog is in excellent condition with no damage or restoration. He measure 8 cms in height by 9 cms wide and 5 cms deep.
