Meissen Porcelain ‘Mandarin’ Chamberstick, C. 1830.

Description

Rare Meissen porcelain chamberstick, c. 1830. Modelled after a Chinese Export porcelain example, which in turn would have been based upon a European silver original. Painted in ‘Mandarin’ famille rose enamel style, with a panel of Chinese figures before a pavilion in a river landscape.

Having a dragon moulded handle, standing upon a grape vine, and supported by a bamboo style section, which forms the candle holder. The grapevine, with moulded squirrels.

Crossed swords mark in underglaze blue, incised and impressed model numbers to the base.

Diameter – 15 cm, 5 7/8”.

Height – 8.5 cm, 3 3/8”.

Medium: Porcelain

Condition: Excellent. No damage.
