Description

This is a fine quality Minton Porcelain Moon Flask, on Bleu Celeste ground attributed to William Mussill, circa 1875. The vase is hand painted with a pheasant before a blossoming tree and birds perched in fruiting branches on a pretty turquoise ground within gilt borders.

Having been born in Carlsbad, Bohemia, Wenceslas (William) Mussill worked at Sèvres before coming to England in 1870 to work for Minton. He specialised in making sketches from nature, painting in a free style with bold impasto under the glaze, a technique known as the Barbontine style. He executed a number of special commissions for Royalty.
