Description

This is a fine pair of 19th century Japanese porcelain Dogs of Fo or temple guardians in super order dating from around 1870. The pair are beautifully modelled, one growling, with mouth agape showing teeth and blood red tongue. The other with closed mouth, both with big pronounced goggly eyes and strong manes. These are beautifully hand painted in a sponged jade green with ochre flower design. The pair are very imposing and make a great statement. They measure 23 cms high.

These were part of the M J Coltman collection of Oriental Porcelain and Works of Art.
