Derby Porcelain Jupiter & Juno, C. 1760.

18th century
Description

An exceptional and rare pair of Derby porcelain figures, c. 1760. Finely modelled as Jupiter and Juno riding chariots, through clouds. Jupiter, crowned, and holding a thunderbolt; an eagle at his side.

Juno wearing flowing robes, and accompanied by a peacock.

Their costumes painted with flowers, possibly by the ‘Cotton stem’ painter.

The chariots crisply modelled with shell scrolls,heightened in gilt, and set upon billowing clouds.

Patch marks to the bases.

A similar pair is illustrated by John Twitchett, Derby Porcelain (1980), p.78 and another by Peter Bradshaw, Derby Porcelain Figures (1990), p.112

Condition: Typical very minor repairs to the extremities. Overall excellent condition.
